NBMS-SBMS boy’s hoops featured high energy, big performances

Tonight’s boy’s basketball matchup at North Belton Middle School featured the 7th and 8th grade A and B teams from South Belton Middle School and NBMS.

As expected, there was plenty of excitement, rushes up the court, long range shooting and hard rebounding action under the basket.

In the 7th grade B game, Francis Walker scored 14 points to lead North Belton to a 26-20 win over South Belton.

NBMS led at the conclusion of the first quarter 7-4 and at halftime 12-8. SBMS outscored NBMS in the third quarter 7-4, but trailed 16-15. North pulled away by doubling up South in the final quarter 10-5.

Don Mills Jr. had seven points for South Belton.

In the 7th grade A game, Seth Morgan and TJ Johnson each had nine points in the second quarter in a 22-4 North Belton outburst to defeat South Belton 50-13.

South lead after the first quarter 6-4 before North’s second quarter run gave them a 26-10 lead.

North shut out South 16-0 in the third quarter, lead by Johnson and Aaron Bain each scoring four points to give NBMS a 42-10 lead. Nick Bennett provided six of North’s eight points to close out the 37-point win.

Johnson led all scorers with 15 points and Morgan had 14 for North Belton.

In the 8th grade B game, North Belton overcame a tight first quarter by outscoring South Belton 31-14 en route to a 37-20 win.

The teams were tied at 6-6 after the first quarter before NBMS posted a 9-2 second quarter, taking a 15-8 lead into the third quarter.

North extended its lead in the third quarter by outscoring South 13-6 and took a 28-14 advantage into the final stanza. NBMS held off South with a 9-6 tally in the fourth quarter to win the ballgame by 17.

The 8th grade A game was the highlight of the night between the two schools and did not disappoint.

North Belton simply could not stop South Belton’s Luke Bramlett.

In one of the best offensive performances in the short history of South Belton Middle School, Bramlett posted 32 points in South’s 45-36 win over North.

The game started off with both teams playing end to end, with few stoppages. North led at the end of the first quarter 13-10.

Bramlett scored all 15 of South’s points in the second quarter, which included three long three-pointers. North led at the half 27-25.

Both teams experienced turnovers and a number of missed shots in the third quarter. The teams combined for 11 points, with North taking a 32-31 lead in the final quarter.

The teams were tied at 36-36 before Bramlett scored nine straight points to close out the night for South, winning by nine.

Kayden Downs led North with 17 points.
