North Belton girl’s hoops sweep Cove on final night of the season

The North Belton Middle School girl’s basketball wrapped up their 2016-2017 season by hosting Copperas Cove Junior High School on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers took all four games in the series.

In the 7th grade B game, the Lady Tigers and Cove 7B teams were scoreless for the games in the first quarter and NBMS scored the only six points of the second quarter in a 16-3 win over the Lady Dawgs.

Sterling Weadock led all scorers with six points for North Belton. Letti Fuller scored four, while Adriana Cabiness, Shelby Jarnagin and Chesney Cota all had two points for North.

In the 7th grade A game, Keira Campbell scored 21 points as the Lady Tigers rolled over Cove 38-14.

North led 6-2 after the first quarter and 17-5 at halftime. NBMS kept rolling with a 28-9 advantage at the end of the third quarter and finished the game on a 10-5 run.

McKenna Maddux scored 11 points, Aniah Hall had four points and Jennie Bonnett added two for North Belton.

In the 8th grade B game, it took awhile for the Lady Tigers to get on track with their shooting. But once they did, it was lights out as North downed Cove 37-9.

Veronica Morales scored four of the five points for North in the first quarter and Hannah Erskine tallied four of the team’s six points in the second quarter, as NBMS led 11-2 at halftime.

Erskine had seven points, leading seven Lady Tigers on the scoresheet in the third quarter, as North led 28-6 at the end of the third quarter. A 9-3 fourth quarter helped North cruise to the 28-point victory.

Erskine led all scorers with 11 points for North. Skylar Jarnigan scored nine points and Teryn Senn scored six points for North.

In the 8th grade A game, balanced scoring ruled the game for North Belton as four players accounted for all of the points in 25-14 win over Cove.

North led 5-3 after the first quarter, but Cove bounced back to tie the game at 7-7 at halftime.

Rachel Mahan and Karina Fisher each score five points, as part of a 12-1 third quarter, providing North with a 19-8 lead at the end of the quarter. Both teams scored six points in the final quarter, as the Lady Tigers ended the season with an 11-point win.

Sydney Sell scored eight points, Mahan scored seven points, and Fisher and Evie Nix each dropped in five points.
