Lady Tiger Powerlifters Advance 11 to State at Regional Meet

Sixteen Lady Tigers took a trip south to Del Valle High School on Friday night to compete for a spot at the THSWPA State Meet in Waco on Saturday, March 18.  The best lifters in Region 2 and some of the best in the state gathered with them, and it was a long, grueling battle.  Lifting began at 6:30 pm, and the final lift wasn’t made until well past the midnight hour.  When the smoke finally cleared, the Lady Tigers finished tied for fourth (with Georgetown) with 22 team points.  More importantly, an amazing 11 Lady Tigers qualified for the state meet.  For each of the girls, the meet was a combination of preparation, determination, sacrifice, strategy, and guts.  There were tremendous highs and painful lows experienced on Friday night, but the team remained resilient and together from beginning to end.  The state qualifiers and weight classes are as follows:

105: Arianna Garcia (2nd), Anastasia Pflaum (4th)

123:  Devion English (4th), Maria Martinez (5th)

132:  Dana Young (2nd)(Best Lightweight Bench Press)

181:  Morgan Callin (4th)

198:  Kailey Hobson

220:  Alicia Goodridge

259:  Serenety Yates (3rd), Kaylee Hausam (4th)

259+:  Montana George
