The Belton JV White lost a tough one tonight versus Cove in their District opener. The 1st Half proved to be a defensive struggle with each team battling hard.
Late in the first quarter, Cove managed a TD on a 1 yard run to put the Dawgs up 7-0. On the next possession for Cove, Belton’s Lorenzo Mendoza picked off a deep pass to end another scoring threat.
In the 2nd quarter, Cove once again managed to strike, this time on a 2 yard run. The snap on the extra point was bobbled and Douglas Ragland was able to make a tackle on the play. At halftime, Copperas Cove led 13-0.
Copperas Cove opened the scoring in the 3rd quarter on an 8 yard run, then converted the 2 point try to go up 21-0. The Belton Offense finally found their stride in the 3rd and scored on a 60 yard TD pass from Reese Perry to Jonathan Figuerroa. Ethan Evelyn was good on the PAT and the score was 21 – 7.
In the 4th Quarter, the two teams traded possessions until the Cove RB squirted through a hole and ran for a 45 yard TD. That proved to be the final score of the game, and Cove notched the victory 28 – 7.
The White will next be in action at Killeen next Thursday at 5:00 pm.
