The Tigers traveled to Copperas Cove to finish the 2017 regular season. The game began with Cove receiving the opening kickoff and moving down the field to score an opening drive touchdown. On the Tigers’ first possession of the game the Tigers were unable to match the Bulldawgs’ score. The Bulldawgs took the next possession and scored their second touchdown of the quarter putting the Tigers in a 14-0 deficit. The Tigers battled in the second quarter and moved the ball down the field as Chris Cznapik broke free on a 31 yard scamper to give the Tigers their first touchdown. Christian Koffman added the PAT to close the margin to Cove 14 – 7. The defense allowed the Tigers to keep the game close by keeping the Bulldawgs scoreless in the quarter.
As the 2nd half started, the Tigers took the opening kickoff with good field position after a nice return by Curtis Hughling. The Tiger offense didn’t waste any time as they moved down the field with receptions by Daniel Fleishhans and Tim Hall. Cznapik completed the scoring drive on a 10 yard run. The PAT was unsuccessful as the Tigers closed the score to 13-14. After the score the Tigers were unsuccessful in maintaining the momentum as the Bulldawgs moved down the field and answered the Tigers’ score with one of their own. The Bulldawgs closed the quarter up 21-13. The 4th quarter started as the Tigers continued to use the combination of runs by Cznapik and Hunter Leinart and pass completions by Josiah Thomas in attempting to score and close the scoring gap. However, the Tigers’ drives in the quarter stalled, and the Tigers were unable to add any more points. The Bulldawgs scored once more leaving the final score Cove 28 – Belton 13.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and look forward to practicing with the Varsity Tigers as they prepare for the playoffs.
