BELTON JV (50) – ELLISON JV (57)
The Belton Tigers JV squad battled the Ellison Eagles in an 8-6A matchup.
The Tigers were in a battle from the tip. Belton and Ellison traded baskets in the 1st with 3 big buckets by Tre Berry, ending the fist tied 14-14. The Tigers started off slow giving up two quick 3’s, but battled back to close out the half on a 6-2 run to cut the halftime lead to 29-26.
Tiger’s battled in the second half down to the wire, only to fall short 57-50. Belton moves to 7-5 in district play. Tiger’s were led by Tre Berry 16 points Diego Santana 7 points, and Mikal Kerley 6 points.
Belton is back in action on the road at Copperas Cove Friday night.
BELTON 9A (70) – ELLISON 9A (77)
Tonight, the men’s Freshman A basketball team traveled to face off against Killeen Ellison for their second matchup, hungry for revenge after a 20 point loss.
In the first half, it was back and forth, both teams putting up good numbers but struggling to get defensive stops. The Tigers were able to get to the free throw line early and get the majority of their points, but trailed at halftime (31-35).
During the second half, Belton chipped away at the score and got within 3 points of the Eagles with 3 minutes left on the clock. As the clock dwindled, the Eagles made a late run, ultimately defeating the Tigers (70-77).
Belton’s lead scorer was Jiminez (26), who knocked down four 3-pointers. Also, putting points on the board was Jones (15), Teplanksy (13), Rojas (7) and Pulliam (7).
This puts the Tigers at 13-10 overall and 4-8 in district.
BELTON 9B (40) – ELLISON 9B (64)
The boys Freshman White basketball team had a tough task on the road against the Ellison Eagles.
The Tigers battled hard, but were never able to overcome being down and lost 64-40. The Tigers never led in the game. The Tigers struggled defensively and stayed in foul trouble throughout the entire game. Despite the loss, the second half of the game showed the Tigers playing with more energy and heart to finish the game strong.
Aiden Martinez and Kanyn Utley led the Tigers in scoring with 8 points apiece, while Fernandez Sanders added 7 points. Dylan De La Fuente had a strong game, finishing with 6 points and Chase Rinehart had 4 points. Omar Moreno had 3 points, while Brayden Walker and Aimere Steward closed out the scoring with 2 points each.
The Tigers record is now to 8-4 as they head into Friday with another tough road test against Copperas Cove on Friday.
