BETLON 9B (43) – COVE 9B (36)
The boys Freshman White basketball team had a tough task on the road against the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs.
The Tigers competed strong from start to finish, and the end result featured a 43-36 victory. The Tigers never trailed in the game. The Tigers played tremendous defense throughout the entire game.
Overall, the Tigers played their most complete game of the season. BJ Thompson led the Tigers with 10 points, while Kanyn Utley and Aimere Steward added 7 points apiece. Jason Bonnett and Aiden Martinez each contributed to 6 points, while Omar Moreno finished with 3 points. Fernandez Sanders and Brayden Walker completed the Tigers’ scoring with 2 points each.
The Tigers record is now 9-4 as they head into their season and home finale against a strong Harker Heights team next Tuesday.
BELTON JV (70) – COVW JV (72)
The Belton Tigers JV battled against Copperas Cove in an 8-6A match up.
The Tigers battled back and forth in the 1st with baskets by Dean Blondmonville and Hayden Lloyd, ending the quarter tied 11-11. In the 2nd, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead with hot shooting behind arc by Tyson Pine, Hayden Lloyd, and Mikal Kerly going into the half leading 39-30. The 3rd quarter was a different story.
The Tigers came out cold, with the Dawgs cutting the deficit to just one 50-49. The 4th quarter, was a battle to the end, with a late 3 pointer by Josh Rardin to cut the lead to 2 with 7 seconds left to go. Belton then got a stop and steal with 2.7 seconds left on the clock down just 72-70. Josh Rardin got a good look at the basket, but it did not fall. Tigers fell to the Dawgs 72-70.
Tigers were led by Hayden Lloyd 17 points, Tyson Pine 17 points, Dean Blondmonville 10 points, and Tre Berry 11 points.
Belton will be back in action for one final time at home Tuesday against Harker Heights.
BELTON 9A (46) – COVE 9A (67)
Tonight, the men’s Freshman A basketball team traveled to face off against Copperas Cove for their second matchup of the year. In the first half,
Cove took control over the game, jumping out early on an eight point run. The Tigers were able to get some momentum off of their full court press, but still trailed at halftime. During the second half, Belton struggled to get rebounds and make shots, allowing the Dawgs to stretch the lead.
Ultimately, the Tigers were defeated in the fourth (67-46). Belton’s lead scorer was Jones with 12 points. Also, the remaining Tigers all put points on the board: Jiminez (7), Teplanksy (9), Rojas (3), Davis (3) and Pulliam (10), Clayton (2).
This puts the Tigers at 13-11 overall and 4-9 in district.
