Eagles Pluck Victory from Tigers

Late Friday Night Recap:      Georgetown: 5, Belton: 1

Belton stayed in it until the end, but Georgetown pulled away in the 5th for a 5-1 victory late Friday night.

The Tigers took the lead in the top of the 1st with a triple by Jonathan Montgomery then scoring on an error.

The Tigers kept dodging bullets as they held onto a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th. The Eagles finally capitalized on an error to score 1 run  then the proverbial wheels came off the bus with poor defensive play allowing 4 more runs to cross the plate.  Chase Fentress took the loss for the Tigers. He allowed 3 hits & 5 runs over 5 innings, striking out 8.

 

The Tigers lost despite out-hitting Georgetown 4 to 3.  Montgomery led the Tigers with two hits.

Leading Hitters: Jonathan Montgomery (2-3, Triple), Jacob Norwood (1-2) & Josh Bowers (1-2).

 

     

Tigers with a Cause as Bats Blister Hays Rebels, 10-6

Saturday Afternoon Recap:   Belton: 10, Hays Rebels: 6

Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Saturday afternoon in a high-scoring affair where Belton bested Hays, 10-6.   Belton racked up 10 hits on the day.  Logan Riggins & Trovinger both had two hits to lead the offensive attack.  Jonathan Montgomery & Chase King hit doubles & Josh Bowers literally stretched out a triple.

Ethen Wells led things off on the hill for the Tigers. He allowed 11 hits & 6 runs over 6 & 2/3 innings, striking out 7 while walking 0.   Christian Alexander pitched the final 1/3 of the inning for the save.

The Tigers put up 4 runs in the 7th inning to seal the deal.  Josh Bowers, Jarrett Karnowski & Coby Trovinger all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Leading Hitters: Chase King (1-4, Double), Gunner Garrett (1-4), Jonathan Montgomery (1-4, 2 RBI, Double), Jacob Norwood (1-4, 2 RBI), Josh Bowers (1-4, 2 RBI, Triple), Logan Riggins (2-3), Jarrett Karnowski (1-1, RBI), & Coby Trovinger (2-4, RBI).

The JV Red Tigers are now 6-3 on the season & will begin District play next Thursday at home versus Harker Heights in a double-header; game times are 5 & 7pm.
