Girls Junior Varsity Softball · JV Softball’s fifth-inning rally pulls up short, falls to Central 4-3

The Belton Lady Tigers played their final road contest of the season on Friday afternoon as they took on the Central Lady Cats in San Angelo.

Down 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Tigers were only able to get one run as time expired at the end of the inning. Belton lost to Central by a score of 4-3.

The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as McKayla Seeliger belted a one-out triple and Bethany Sherwood drove her in on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Avery Page got the start in the circle for Belton and Central landed five base runners on through the first two innings. Page struck out two batters, Hazel Blair made three stellar put outs at second base, and Tristyn Barton registered a put out in left field.

In the top of the third inning, Blair led off with a walk and stole second base. With two out, Sherwood hit a blast into the left-centerfield gap for a double and scored Blair to put Belton up 2-0.

Page got roughed up for three runs in the third inning on four hits and a fielding error, as Central took a 3-2 lead.

Belton had an opportunity for an equalizer in the top of the fourth inning with two outs, as Rachel Bledsoe tripled. But a strikeout ended the threat.

Central picked up an insurance run off of Sherwood in the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Tigers rallied with two outs. Seeliger walked and stole second base. Sherwood was intentionally walked, setting up Skylar Jarnagin’s RBI single to split the margin to one run, 4-3. But a fly out to centerfield ended the inning and time had expired to end the game.

Seeliger scored two of the three Lady Tigers’ runs. Belton left five runners on base in the game.

The Lady Tigers will take on Ellison at Lady Tiger Field on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
