The Belton Lady Tigers traveled to Harker Heights to take on the Lady Knights on their Homecoming evening. This matchup concluded the first round of district play for 12-6A, and an opportunity for the Lady Tigers to end the first round feeling solid.

Belton rolled past Harker Heights in three sets, with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-13. Belton moves to 5-3 in district play.

“Our aggressive serving was a big improvement tonight,” Varsity Assistant Kayla Perez said. “We finished the game better than we started the game.”

“Our match was not without errors, but the difference is we did not let those errors define the next several plays,” Brodbeck said.  “The team did an excellent job of staying cohesive, and the energy from that unity was exciting to watch. I give a great deal of credit to Coach Wilder’s Lady Knights as they were very persistent. I am pleased that we are able to close the first round on a positive note and keep making strides and improvements. The most exciting aspect is that our team has not peaked yet.”

Match leaders for Belton were Kelsey Surovik with 11 kills, 3 blocks, 7 digs, and 2 aces. Emily Holder registered 25 assists, 8 digs and 3 aces. Kamryn Madden was a force on the net with 9 kills, 4 blocks, and 7 digs.  Jaci Cauble had 8 digs and 1 ace, along with Morgan Weber contributing 5 kills and 3 aces.

The junior varsity team matchup provided a thriller for fans to watch.  Belton battled to win 2-1. The intensity of the match highlighted the bright future for each program. The Lady Tigers fought for the first set winning 26-24, but let the second set slip away 21-25.  Grit, drive, and determination powered the Lady Tigers to dominate the third set with a score of 25-10.

The freshmen teams exchanged point for point within the first few points of each set, but the Lady Tigers were relentless and swept the match with ease with scores of 25-13 and 25-9.

Belton will begin the second round of district play on Tuesday, hosting district 12-6A leader, Midway for North Belton Middle School night and Teacher Appreciation Night. Freshmen and JV will play at 5:30, followed by Varsity at 6:30.
