Girls 7th Grade Volleyball LB, Girls 8th Grade Volleyball LB · Lake v Lamar: Tigers v Bearcats

Last night the Lake Belton Lady Tiger’s traveled to Lamar Middle School to play against the Lady Bearcats, in what was an eventful night of volleyball.

7th grade B team started out the night strong for the Lake. We had some great serves and were really ready to move our feet and pass the ball. The Lady Bearcats had some strong serves, and were quick to send the ball over the net, but Lake was ready and eager to play it back. Unfortunately due to several serving errors Lake fell short to the Bearcats in the first set, 18-25. Lamar kept that momentum rolling into the second set and came out strong trying to jump ahead of Lake. Lake fought back point for point before Lamar got onto a serving streak and closed out the second set at 25-14. Players of the game were Sa’Deja Ellis and Caroline Myron for playing with intensity and focus, which worked for some great overall hustle on the court.

8th grade B team played next CRUSHING the Lady Bearcats.  In the first set Daniela Zarinana came out with great serves to get the intensity of the game up for eleven straight points. After a few hiccups in the rotation, 3 points later, Jalynn Calloway finished the game with 13 destructive serves in a row, allowing the Tigers to come away with a 25-4 win in set 1.

Set 2 was no different, with both Emily Trcka and Jalynn Calloway each serving for 7 points in a row. Although the Bearcats attempted to even the score, the Tigers were too strong at the serving line to be shaken. Set 2 was a swift 25-12 win for the Lady Tigers, bringing their record to 4-0 for the season. Player of the game was Jalynn Calloway for aggressive and consistent serves.

7th grade A team was up next and fought point for point against the Lady Bearcats to bring home a win for 7th grade. However, Lamar was quick in getting the balls back over the net whilst Lake was in transition. Serving errors really slowed the game down for Lake and Lamar soared ahead with some target serves. The first set was quickly closed out at 25-17. The Lady Tigers were not ready to quit though, and came back with a vengeance in the second set. Trailing Lamar for a majority of the game, Lake picked it and up brought it back to a point for point game at 18-18. Cadence Ellis, Scarlett Finch, and Austin Inman came out strong with some tough serves that shook the Bearcats. Lamar worked there way up to bring it within 20-20, and they served back some vital points that helped them roll the game on in their favor at 25-22. Players of the game were Avery Jones and Hannah Sisson for hustle and focus on the court, being aggressive in working towards every ball, which created an all around great team effort.

Last but certainly not least 8th grade A team came out ready to close the night out for Lake. Lake came out strong in the first set, ready to crush the Bearcats. Lake had a steady set of rallies, keeping the ball moving in their favor. Serve receive was decisive and quick as we had great passes and quickly put the ball back down. Lamar struggled to find holes in Lake’s defense, as the Tigers were quick on their toes! Anna Ramirez brought the heat with some amazing serving, bringing Lake all the way up to game point. The first set closed out on a serving error by Lamar, making the score 25-14.

The Lady Tigers were eager to roll into the 2nd set and get a quick finish for the night, however the Lady Bearcats were coming back with a fight. Lake jumped out ahead with phenomenal serve receive. Aizlenn Canava was quick on the passes and had great coverage as well. However, Lamar was quick to push some tough free balls back over the net, catching Lake in transition. After several dropped balls in a row Lake took a time out to calm down and gather their wits. The game was back and Lake was quick on the passes, but several hitting errors put us behind with Lamar up at 22-17. Lake was not ready to quit and jumped into action, bringing the heat and intensity! Kaylee Rodriguez rotated back to serve and pushed the envelope with some strong aces. Lamar just couldn’t get back and pass a ball, and even when they got a pass up Lakes destructive defense shut it down. Lake finished out the set 25-23, for a great win! Kaylee Rodriguez took home player of the game for her 7 straight serves and 9 attacks at the net.

Next week Lake Belton Lady Tiger’s will travel to play against Midway on Thursday Oct. 4, 2018!
