Friday was a very special night for the Belton Volleyball program, as they welcomed alumni to Homecoming night and shared the names of special friends and family to play in honor of for Pink Out Night. The Lady Tigers pounced on the Roos, and won in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-17. Coach Brodbeck shared, “The whole motivation for tonight in honoring those affected by cancer seemed to propel the girls and served as a reminder for what is really important. I felt our team communication went well and we were able to avoid losing momentum for extended periods of time. The match wasn’t perfect, and we had errors but we did not allow those errors to dictate the next several plays. Each player stepped into their role and accepted it.” Kamryn Madden led the Tigers with 9 kills, 3 blocks and 1 ace. Kelsey Surovik contributed 17 assists, 8 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 aces, while Madison Ward handled 15 digs and 3 aces.
The junior varsity defeated Killeen High in two sets, with scores of 25-16 and 25-15. “We played well tonight to finish off the week. Our serve receive and serving struggled a little, but defense and front row kept their aggression. We need to continue working on communication and movement in order to succeed against Heights on Tuesday,” Coach Petter said.
The freshmen red team powered past Killeen High with scores of 25-5 and 25-10. Coach Dickerson said, “The girls did great tonight especially based on the circumstances. I ran two brand new rotations each set just to see how the girls responded to the change. I think it helps to create a well rounded athlete when you can play another position on the fly. The girls adjusted very well and played well. Serve receive looked great and we had some good kills. Overall I am proud of what the girls did tonight. Ready to go out with a bang against Harker Heights.”
The varsity moves to 10-5 in district 12-6A, and 19-23 overall. The final regular season match will be played at home, with junior varsity starting at 5:30 and varsity following at 6:30. We will honor our five senior players and one senior manager immediately following the junior varsity match.
