What a night to be a North Tiger! There is always more electric in the air when we are playing a hometown rival. Last night three out of four North teams were able to deliver. 7B 18-13, 7A 32-14, 8B 17-10, and 8A 19-20.
7B started off the night for 7th grade in the small gym and they started off slow. At half-time the score was 4-4, which were scored by Jasmine Beasley. 3rd quarter North found some of their groove and started landing the shots, taking the lead 13-8. Angelina DeLeon had five steals, seven rebounds, scored four points, and drew the foul for free-throw opportunities.
7th Grade A Team won against South Belton 32 to 14 last night. Their aggressive defense caused them to have forty-one steals with Ella Wheeless leading the way with eight. With a dominating offense, North Belton was able to outscore South in all quarters. Wheeless and Macey Weber were leading scorers last night both scoring twelve points. Trinitay Pearson also led with twelve rebounds. The Lady Tiger’s played well as a team and all contributed to last night’s win. They will compete in the Georgetown tournament next Wednesday.
8B started the night off with a 17-10 win. The first quarter started off with North jumping out to a 6-2 advantage. McKenzie Batey, Raven Dupree and Samantha Grimaldo each scored a basket. The second quarter was a struggle offensively as North couldn’t get a basket to fall and South would take advantage scoring four baskets of their own. Stevie Blaha was able to drop two free throws and Dupree would also add a free throw. North would go into halftime trailing 10-9. Out of the half, North’s defense came alive and completely shut down South’s offense as they didn’t register another point the rest of the game. Grimaldo, Trinity Fly and Mary Hayes would each add a basket in the third quarter as North would regain the lead, 15-10. Batey would add another basket in the fourth quarter to finish the game at 17-10 in favor of North.
8A would battle to the end but ultimately fall short 19-20 to an aggressive South 8A team. From the tip, South’s game plan was to minimize North’s transition offense. Danica Bingham was able to knock down her first two jumpers and give North a 4-2 lead before South would add a couple baskets to take the 6-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, North would scrap back, but had some difficulty getting anything going. Alina Tavernier led all scorers in the quarter with four points, dropping in two free throws and a basket. Sydni Cartwright scored one point. North would trail at the half, 9-11. Coming out of the half, Madison Lux put North on her back as she would score seven of her team high nine points in the third quarter to give North the lead, 16-15. The game stayed the same throughout the fourth until South would drain a three pointer to put them up by four points with under a minute to go. Lux would add another basket to cut the lead to two. North would come up with a huge steal and Tavernier would draw the foul at the other end with a chance to tie the game on the free throw line. The first free throw would drop to cut the lead to one, but the second was missed and North would foul to stop the clock with eight seconds left. North would apply pressure and knock the ensuing inbound out to stop the clock again at two seconds. North would get the steal but could not get off a final shot and South would escape with a 19-20 win.
