Last night the Lake Belton Lady Tiger’s traveled to North Belton to play their second district basketball game of the season. It was a hard sought night on all courts as every team pushed towards victory.
Lake Belton 7th grade A team girls played hard, but fell short of the win. With determination and focus there was a lot of great plays made but unfortunately North was quicker. Player of the game was Aijah Bailey-Ray, with 4 defensive rebounds and 2 free throws. Other notable players were Yuliana Reyes-Guerrero, Austin Inman and Sa’Deja Ellis, who all played hard and contributed to LBMS score.
7th grade B team improved their play and hustle. They fought hard against a very good North Belton Team, however they were unable to stop North as they continually pressed and pushed turnovers. Elizabeth Chamberlain was player of the game for her hustle and determination.
Eighth grade B team kept the tiger spirit alive last night at North Belton. Great aggressiveness from posts all four quarters allowed for rebounds, fast breaks, and good defense. The lady Tigers led in the first quarter 5-1, starting up the momentum for what would be an exciting and fast paced game. The second quarter ended at 5-3 as Lake had to defend quite a few shots from North Belton. But after half time, the Tigers were ready to take on North for a win. Scoring 6 points in the third, and 8 in the fourth quarter, Lake was able to seal a victory over the NB tigers. Player of the game was Trinity Lutz, for hustle, teamwork, and aggressive defense. Lutz also scored 4 points, and had many rebounds, helping to keep the tigers speed alive all game.
8th grade A team looked to close out the night with another win, but was not prepared for the pressure and hustle that North was going to bring to the game. North ran a tough full court press and immediately jumped ahead in the game. Lake struggled to control their passes and get their ball down the court, running into 5 turnovers in just the first quarter. A quick turnaround happened as Lake was able to push North into fouling on several occasions. Lake managed to put up several shots in the first quarter but only managed to score 7 points. The first half of the game ran by quickly with Lake scoring 9 points and North was up at 20. After a quick pep talk and a review of some plays at the half Lake came back into the game with an aggression unlike before. Finally working it out to get past the full court press Lake had a lot of great looks down the court with Jalynn Calloway on the assist for Allie Angell to put some points on the board for Lake. Rebekah Bledsoe put up some great shots on the block as well bringing Lake up to 17 points in the 3rd quarter. Rolling into the last quarter with North up Lake fought to close the score gap by any means. Closing out the final quarter at 36-25 with North taking the victory it was a rough night. Player of the game was Allie Angell as came in with several baskets for Lake as well as crushing it in rebounds.
