Belton JV 52 Waco 56
Tonight, the JV Boys basketball team traveled to face Waco High for their third match up of the year. The first quarter was a stalemate, both teams scoring 11. It remained close in the second, both teams taking turns getting layups on transition. The Lions led by one at the half (21-22). The Tigers struggled to stay with Waco in the third, letting them stretch the lead by 9. Ultimately, Belton was defeated after closing the gap to a three point game but falling short at the end(52-56). Belton’s lead scorers were Smith with 15, Santana with 14 and Aggers with 10. This puts the Tigers at 14-11 overall for the season.
Belton 9 Red 55 Waco 34
The Belton Red team traveled to Waco Friday night to take on the Lions. The Tigers were looking to get to 7 and 6 in district. The Tigers came out with something to prove and opened up a big lead early. The Tigers would end the first quarter on a 14 to 0 run to take a 18-3 lead after one quarter. Waco would wake up in the second quarter and would close the lead but the Tigers took a commanding lead into halftime up 31-18. In the third both teams would trade baskets but the Tigers would add to the lead by two taking a 43-28 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter the Tigers would seal the game with defense only allowing 6 points in the final quarter and taking the victory 55-34.
