Thursday DH Recap

The JV Red continued their torrid hot streak Thursday evening as they pounded Harker Heights like the squall line of wind & rain that passed through the county earlier in the morning, sweeping the Knights, 21 – 0 & 14 – 1.   The Tigers again used strong pitching, competent defense & an offensive assault that banged out 23 hits & scored 35 runs. As a team, they accumulated their 7th shut-out of the season & pushed their win streak to 11 games.

 

Game 1

JV Red Hammers Heights, 21 – 0

The Tigers utilized 13 walks to their advantage as they pounded out 14 hits for the game & scored in 4 of the 5 innings played. Caleb Alexander pitched well in his first start of the year going 5 innings for the victory while allowing 0 runs & 3 hits with 9 K’s & 1 walk.   The JV Red committed 2 errors on defense, but made enough routine plays to stymie the Knights.

Game 2

JV Tigers Joust Knights, 14 – 1

A 9-run 4th inning blew open a close game as the JV Red cruised to a 14-2 victory & a sweep of Harker Heights.   The Tigers again had a good eye at the plate collecting 11 walks & 9 hits. Logan Bohler pitched well enough for the victory going 5 innings, surrendering 4 hits with 5 K’s & 0 walks. Defensively, the Tigers got a little lackadaisical committing 3 errors, but one shining moment was a lunging catch of a line-drive by Amiere Steward to keep the Knights at their 1 run.

The JV Red is now 13 – 1 – 1 on the season & 3 – 0 in District. They will host Killeens on Saturday with a double-header; game times are 11:00am & 1:00pm.
