Freshman White had a solid weekend to start off the season. They came out strong on Thursday, going 2-0 against Whitney and Troy. Team dynamic and chemistry was strong considering how early in the season it is. Quick defense and a dominant front row secured their spot in the gold bracket for the weekend.
Saturday the level of competition went up as White played Midway for their first game of the day. White fought hard despite Midways consistent attacks and service. A solid serve receive helped White continue to stay in the game. Layloni Watson did a great job of continuously putting up a block and getting several touches to slow down Midways attacks. Paige Roehl kept the defense moving with constant communication as libero. Midway took the first set, but White came back ready to fight and pushed back in the second. Some small service errors got White in the end and Midway took the match.
Immediately rolling into their next game against Lorena with high energy, White came out with a plan to show they weren’t to be counted out just yet. Both teams started out going point for point in the first set, when Lorena jumped out to a small lead. Again White fought back, making sure to put up consistent attacks at the net. Rebekah Bledsoe and Isabella Hinds worked to keep Lorena on their toes with several attacks, that kept them in the game. Lorena took the first set off a few untimely errors. The second set remained a point for point match down to the wire. Paige Roehl served some straight aces, making Lorena stagger to recover on serve receive. Lorena jumped out to a lead at 17-13, but Lake wasn’t ready to quit. Both rolled into 20 point together and it went point for point with some intense rallies from there. Lorena closed out the match on a service error by Belton, winning 25-24.
White moved into the consolation bracket taking a solid quick win against Waco Connally, and then Hamilton, taking 4th overall for the weekend!
