On Saturday, September 7, the 7th grade ‘A’ team traveled to Robinson to take on some new competition. We opened the tournament playing Connally. The first set was an easy victory with a score of 25-19 thanks to Ava Itz’s 9 serves in a row! The second set was more of nail biter, but we still came out on top with a score of 25-23. Akina Gonzalez had 3 serves for points and Katie McDonald and Silintip Rattana had great passes from the front row. This was our first victory of the season!
Going into the winners’ bracket, the team took this challenge head on facing our cross town rivals of North Belton. Struggling to return North’s serves in the first set, we fell behind and lost the first set 17-25. BUT! Wanting to get back to that winning feeling, the team was determined to make a comeback. The girls played as a team and won the second set with a score of 15-25, in large part due to Angie Grimes’s awesome serves and hard work as one of our setters. After forcing the game to go to the 3rd set, the team struggled to maintain their composure despite Kate Pearson’s 4 serves for points and Isabella River Munoz’s kills, and lost the set and game with a score of 10-15.
Trying to shake off a tough game, the girls prepared to take on La Vega’s team in the third place game. The girls had a great game, but struggled to make and return serves and ending up losing the game in the third set once again.
We saw a lot of great volleyball and teamwork throughout the tournament and are incredibly proud of their efforts! We are working on some new strategies for our next game which is this Thursday, September 12 at home vs. Cove.
We are South Belton and WE NEVER STOP!
