Boys 8th Grade Football NB · NBMS 8th Football Wins Two against Midway Red


The North Belton 8thgrade hosted Midway Red Tuesday Night. The B team got things started off on offense but were forced to punt. Midway was forced to punt and Brayden Libersky blocked the punt setting up the Tiger offense at the Tiger 35 yd. line. The Tigers scored on a pass from Peyton Flanagan to Hunter Myers from 30 yds. out.  Dawson Vuong booted the 2 pt. conversion giving the Tigers an 8-0 lead. Neither offense was able to score the rest of the half.  Tiger take 8-0 lead at the half.

On the first drive the Panthers drove the ball down to the 10 yd. line before a fumble recover by Ryon Vaughan. On the next drive  the Tigers break a long run but fumbled to give Midway the ball again.  The Panthers were able to drive down to the Tiger 10 yd. line before Monte Whitfield intercepted at the 3 yd. line.  The Tigers were able to move the ball out to the 20 yd. line and take a knee to run the clock out.  Offensive players of the game were Hunter Myers, Monte Whitfield and Hayden Ward.  Defensive Players of the game were Dillon Smith, Caleb Jeffries and Dawson Vuong. The Tigers will be in action next week at SBMS.

 

The A team got things started off as Brandon Bell returned the kick off to the Panther 20 y line. Ty Legg punched the ball in from 1 yd. out to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead. Defense started the game with hardnosed tackling on at the line and forced Midway to punt on their first possession.  After a few running plays up the middle and one penalty by the Tigers, QB Ty Legg broke a touchdown run of 67 yards.  The point after attempt by Trapper Goodwin was successful and the first quarter ended with North leading 14-0. Midway Red put a quick touchdown drive together through a mixture of run and pass, ending in a 1 yard touchdown run by the tailback and capped of with a 2 point PAT.  North leads 14-8 with 5:55 left in the half.

The ensuing kickoff was blocked to perfection setting a lane down the sideline for Ty Legg with a TD return of 86 yards.  PAT is no good and North leads 20-8.

Midway Red took over on the 28 yard line.  First play was a QB keeper and the following play resulted in a 36 yard pick six by Ty Legg. PAT was good and North leads 28-8 with 4:29 left in the half. Midway had a six play drive that resulted in a punt to North.  The Tigers drove down the field with a mixture of run and pass but ended the half scoring no points on the drive.  North Belton led Midway Red 28-8 at the half. The second half began with an unsuccessful onside by the Tigers and Midway Red began with good field position at the 42 yard line.  Three plays later a 50/50 ball was won by Ty Legg and North Belton took over deep in their own territory at the 18 yard line.  A 3 and out by the Tigers resulted in a punt and Midway took over in North territory at the 45 yard line.  A quick drive led to a punt and North took over at the 31 yard line.  The Tigers drained the clock in the third quarter by running the ball and started with 1stand 10 at the Midway 32 yard line.

Starting the 4thquarter the Tigers had a bad handoff that lead to a fumble recovered by Midway.  The Panthers took over at their own 33 yard line but, the drive started with an interception by Evan Williams and the Tigers took over at midfield.  With Trap Johnson at QB the Tigers finished off a 50 yard drive with a 4 yard TD run by Isaiah Koonce, the PAT was no good but got ran in by the holder Ty Legg.  With 3:33 left in the game North led 35-8.  Following a long kickoff return and short passing the Panthers finished the drive with a 1 yard QB keeper.  The PAT was unsuccessful and the Tigers led 35-14 with :11 remaining.  With the final kickoff by the Panthers, the North Belton Tigers got in Victory Formation for the final play.  Taking a knee the Tigers earned a 35-14 win.
