Multiple Teams · Balanced scoring helps Lady Tigers Freshman squad to 38-29 win over Liberty Hill

The Belton Lady Tigers’ Freshman squad hosted the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers at Tiger Gym on Tuesday night, the last game before District 12-6A action begins.

The Lady Tigers may not have had a player in double-figures. However, their tenacious defense and attention to detail under the basket helped them capture a 38-29 win over the Lady Panthers.

Isabella Hinds, Bekah Bledsoe, Bella Bustos and Trinity Fly combined for all 11 points in the first stanza, as Belton led Liberty Hill 11-7 at the end of the first eight minutes.

The baskets got tighter in the second quarter, as Liberty Hill outscored Belton 6-2. Hinds netted the only bucket for Belton, as the Lady Tigers and Lady Panthers were knotted up at 13-13 at the half.

Liberty Hill took the lead late in the third quarter and took a 23-21 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers started ripping the twine with alarming regularity in the fourth quarter, as they outscored Liberty Hill 17-6. Bustos, Fly, Jasmine Mitchell, Roz Leibowitz, Mariah Dilworth and Jade Rivera registered tallies on the scoresheet in the final quarter to help Belton to the nine-point win.

Fly scored eight points to lead Belton’s balanced-scoring attack. Bustos and Rivera each had six points, while Bustos and Mitchell both had five points.

Belton hosts district-rival Copperas Cove on Tuesday night (Dec. 3) at Tiger Gym.
