On Thursday, January 9, 2020, the Lady Tigers of the 7th grade South Belton team faced Salado on our home turf in a non-district game. It was a rough first week of practice back from Christmas break, but the girls worked hard to shake off the rust. The girls started off strong and the 1st quarter ended in a 4-4 tie thanks to Lilia Trujillo and Bella Stermer’s baskets. The second quarter was a little bit more of a struggle, as the girls couldn’t quite get a handle on running any plays – offensively or defensively. We let Salado score 5 points in the 2nd quarter and scoring none ourselves, going into halftime down 4-9. Coming out of halftime the girls tried to focus on running plays and making good passes. Unfortunately, we were out played and out passed. The South Belton Tigers were lackadaisical in their ability to run any plays effective and struggled to get on the same page. In the 4th quarter, our frustrations started to show and we really let Salado gain some points. The final score was 20-10. Lilia Trujillo scored two more baskets and Hailey Schutz scored two points as well. While we hope this has shaken off our rust from Christmas break, we look forward to our bye week as we get ready to face Lake Belton in our last home on the season on January 23. Go South!!!
