On Tuesday night, the Belton Tiger Volleyball team hosted the Georgetown East View Patriots to start the 2020 volleyball season.
There were stretches throughout the match where Belton appeared to have East View where they wanted them. However, it was the Patriots who took all three games to start the season.
The scores of the match were 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.
Belton (0-1) started off the first game with a 4-1 lead, paced by solid service by McKenzie Mansell and a backline kill by MyKaela Johnston.
The Patriots answered with a 4-1 run of their own and the teams traded the lead throughout the middle strains of the opening game. East View closed out the first game with a 10-4 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Emily Revis’ kill to start the second game energized the home crowd. Kylie Blomquist added an ace and Revis added a kill later on which kept the Tigers close.
East View pulled out to a five-point lead, although Belton kept the game close. Three points was as close as the Tigers got, as the Patriots took game two by five points.
Mansell assisted on Johnston’s kill to give Belton a 4-2 lead in the third game. Kendall Dollar served up Mansell’s assist on Sydney Sell’s kill to re-tie the game at 7-7.
The Patriots’ service errors allowed the Tigers to stay close and, eventually, take a 12-11 lead.
East View went on a 9-1 run to lead by a match-high seven points, 20-13.
The Tigers closed the gap to within five points in the late going. However, the Patriots were able to close match and take home the win.
Belton will host on Stony Point on Friday at Tiger Gym.
