The Belton Tiger Softball team hosted the Mansfield Tigers in game one of the Class 6A Region II Bi-District best-of-three series on a rainy Thursday night.
Mansfield grabbed an early lead and broke open the game with a six-run fourth inning to run-rule Belton, 13-0.
Maddie Esalon singled home Jadyn Ferguson and Miyah Jackson scored on an error to give Mansfield a 2-0 lead in the first inning off of Belton starting pitcher Kaylee Jordan.
Macy Hamilton drove in Emma Mayes in the second inning, Mayes drove in Esalon on an error and Blake Borg’s fielder’s choice scored Emilee Watkins in the third inning to put Mansfield up, 5-0.
Belton put two runners on base in the third inning, as Tristyn Barton reached on an error and Kaylee Rodriguez walked with one out. However, a flyout and a groundout stranded Barton and Rodriguez on base.
Zoey Johnson’s three-run homer, Esalon’s two-run single and Borg’s RBI single gave Mansfield an 11-0 lead.
Watkins added a two-run double to extend Mansfield’s lead in the fifth inning.
McKayla Owens had the lone hit of the night for Belton, as she singled to start the bottom of the fifth inning. However, two strikeouts and a flyout ended a rough night at home for Belton.
Esalon had three hits, and Watkins and Emma Mayes each had two hits for Mansfield. They picked up 13 hits and left six runners on base.
Belton left three runners on base.
Belton travels to Mansfield on Friday night for game two of the series at 7:30 p.m.
